Great achievement for cereal research in Tunisia! The first complete genome sequences of two iconic Tunisian durum wheat landraces: Mahmoudi and Chili have been published by a group of Tunisian researchers

These varieties are living archives of genetic traits essential for drought tolerance, disease resistance and high nutritional value.
This achievement was made possible through collaboration with the @National Gene Bank of Tunisia #BNG and our partners at #GetGenome, as well as experts in the @Durum Genome Project Tunisia (#DurumGPT) consortium led by Pr. Moez Hanin, coordinator of INPLANTOMICS.
These sequences will support climate-resilient wheat breeding in Tunisia and beyond, empower farmers and breeders with data-driven tools and serve as a model for the transformative power of local empowerment and open science in line with INPLANTOMICS’ objectives and opens perspectives beyond INPLANTOMICS.
